For fully remote teams
When there is no office to walk through, the incidental contact has to be designed rather than assumed.
The specific problem
Remote teams do not lose communication — they lose the unplanned kind. Everything that remains is scheduled, attended and about work, which is a poor substitute for the thirty seconds by a kettle.
What changes
A daily round gives the team one shared, low-stakes thing that is not work, arriving at a predictable time and needing no organiser. It is small on purpose: the aim is something that still happens in month six.
