Jargon tier list

Ranking corporate language by how much damage it does. Strong opinions, freely given.

S tier — actively useful, unfairly maligned

These get mocked but earn their place: they compress a real idea into one word.

  1. Scope
  2. Blocker
  3. Bandwidth, when it means capacity and is meant literally

B tier — harmless filler

Says nothing, costs nothing, keeps a sentence moving.

  1. Circle back
  2. Touch base
  3. At a high level

F tier — actively obscures

The problem with these is not that they are ugly. It is that they are used precisely when somebody does not want to say the plain version.

  1. "Rightsizing"
  2. "Let's take this offline", when it means "I would like this conversation to stop"
  3. "We're all founders here"
